The Role of Mexican-American Border Relations in the Political Process

The Role of Mexican-American Border Relations in the Political ProcessThroughout the 1990s up until the present, Mexican-American governmental relations have been very inconsistent in their endeavors to define what the relationship should and depart be between the two different countries. The capacious influx of Mexican immigrants has commanded attention from the governments of both countries. This has resulted in attempts to make a working partnership ack no.ledging the fact that the peoples of Mexican decent have grown into the largest nonage group in the United States and in that location are many issues to be hammered out by both countries in establishing just economic and political relations. However this effort has encountered many setbacks and questions of dedication to a working relationship between Mexico and the United States both in the past and currently.Politicians who once jumped on the bandwagon of demonizing Mexican Americans are now fronting to be their closes t allies and representatives in order to gain there votes in reelection. Who were once a people solely restrict to the lowest of economic class and labor, are slowly working their ways into the higher classes and employment opportunities. Conservative citizens prejudiced attitudes towards Mexicans is balanced out by gratis(p) populations as well. While poor economic times and difficulty in finding employment tend to point fingers at populations like the Mexican immigrants, there is still a need for the cheap labor in the fields and factories to keep production moving. The Extreme Right in Britain Essay -- Political Politics

The Extreme justifiedly in BritainIntroductionPerhaps, one of the highly debated issues in the electoral procedures of different European nations is about the extreme right. Based on the premise that the nation is the primary unit of social and political organization, extremist patriotism has been revived since the demise of communism. Unlike civic nationalism, which stresses equality and solidarity, the exaggerated, chauvinistic, and aggressive nationalism of the extreme right upholds the significance of the nation and national identity against any former(a) value. Each person is defined by membership in ancient ethnic and cultural groups that are hierarchically arranged according to the natural order. In the extreme rights view, violating this natural order through racial combination leads to corruption in society.Consequently, the extreme right portrays itself as the defender of the nation, protecting societys integrity and white from the onslaught of foreigners and unwanted cha nge. Therefore, national identity subordinates all other identifications it divides good from evil and friend from enemy. It is a source of pride that right-wing extremists feel has been denied them by the state and liberals. The resurgence of extreme right parties gained its first sudden and dramatic momentum when the Front National (FN), led by Jean-Marie LePen, scored 11.2 percent in the 1984 European elections. This took many by surprise, including political and social scientists, most of whom at the time had expected rightist extremism to disperse altogether. Indeed, until the mid-1980s, the organized extreme right remained completely marginalized in Europe, enjoyed little political support, and performed poorly in elections.Even mor... ... as Compared with Previous Ones. Automobile Ads Analysis - Hummer H3 V8 :: Advertising Branding Analysis

Creative concept I liked the creative angle that was given over to the brand. As a brand with so much emotional capital, it was well employed to create a no-frills ad that spoke little and all the same had an impact. A very opticly strong ad too. I liked the light balance that has been used, especially on the product. Bold, in- your- face and prestigiousness were the key elements that I feel come across strongly. The headline is very creative, commands respect. If I were to put myself in the shoes of their TA, I would definitely be enticed to go for a experiment drive or check out the website for more information. The creative concept also banks upon the aura of mystery that it creates with the little information it gives out and the dramatic visual of the product. A good concept that was well executed, for a good final effect. The idea of replicating the black lines on the left hand side of the page, reminiscent of a typewriter is very well done. It lends an old-school feelin g to the ad, but also brings in the toughness factor, that is a core Hummer attribute. Layout The layout of the ad is impressive, attention grabbing and bold. The movement of the eye from the publicize to the tagline and the symbol is smooth and seamless. It is a bleed layout. Visual The visual is very strategically placed on the bottom right of the page. The ad features a touch shot of the front grille, dead center, shot from a low angle and angling up. Very aggressively presented, letting the product speak for itself and creating an aura of mystery. It lends prestige and boasts of power for a brand already associated with ruggedness and as a true-blue off-roader drive. The lack of color, except black and a little yellowish gold in the headlights is instrumental in giving the car the physical properties of power, no-nonsense and toughness, that could eat up the competition for lunch.. Except for the front bender, the rest of the car is silhouetted in the dark. at that plac e is a sort of typewriter feel given to the image. As if its breaking news being sent out. Headline The Mountain came to the Alpha. Creatively, it is a strong statement that complements the image completely. The font is black and big, which works perfectly, off-setting the white balance in the ad.

Brave New World :: essays research papers

The Loss of Individuality The peak of a writers vocation should exhibit their most profound works of literature. In the case of Aldous Huxley, Brave bare-ass World is by far his most renowned novel. Aldous Huxley is a European-born writer who, in the midst of his career, moved to the United States and settled in California. While in California, he began to book visions aided by his usage of hallucinatory drugs. His visions were of a utopian indian lodge surviving here on earth. In his literature, Huxley wanted to make this utopian society as much a reality as possible. "In framing an ideal we may assume what we wish, but should avoid impossibilities." This quote, written by Aristotle, perfectly describes Huxleys attitude towards the creation of his imaginary utopia. His completely problem was establishing a value system that would not seem too unattainable. Huxley has two novels that have the theme of utopia, Brave New World and Island. Brave New World , which was writt en before Island , has ideas that are quite far-fetched, but in Huxleys eyes, still close to reality. Huxleys first portrait of utopia involves having a controlled society of people all being alike. The year is A.F. 632 (After Ford Ford is the equivalent to God in Brave New World ) and with the available technology, citizens are slew produced. Island is a product of the rethinking of Huxleys utopia. The ideas are a lot more real because the people are just ordinary human beings. Both of these novels have an underlying theme in common. The stability of Huxleys utopian societies are centered around the loss of individualism. Individuals are considered a threat in Huxleys utopian novels. In the novel Island, the utopian society is on a small island, named Pala. The leader of the utopian society, Murugan, is an individual apart from the community. His plans are to modernize and press the way the people of Pala live. The reason he has thoughts that are different from the rest of the co mmunity is that he was raised outside of Pala. He grew up in Switzerland and the conterminous island Rendag, both of which have been modernized and corrupted by the outside world. Therefore, Murugans mind has been corrupted by his staying in those two places. "Pala is thus threatened by the outside world," explains critic Frank Magill, because Murugan is introducing the modern way of life to this small island and it is damaging the stability of the community.

Aurora Borealis

Aurora Borealis In 1921 Pierre Gassendi was the person who named the colored brightness in the sky Aurora Borealis. Aurora comes from the goddess of dawn and borealis comes from the god of the wedlock wind, which in Latin mean Boreas. Another name for them is the Northern Light. Alaska is one of few to have the privilege to see them. In the black and white image by William R. Norton, in the Yukon Territory shows the Union lights. In this picture it show a lot of trees, snow and a single cabin, no river, no tools, only if it does look like a light was on looking at the window. The northern lights is a wide spread of a white compared to the sky which is black. The trees disputation as the wind as it blows by. This picture is a picture that helps explain how the upper north is where it is clearer. In a rural area in a calm setting a beautiful thing happen. It is something not just every Alaskan wants to see but everyone wants to see. The beauty that science chiffonier mould to th is earth is amazing. As people stand or sit in awe of the view, they take in every moment that they have. This picture is picture that can and will forever remind us that our world / earth is a beautiful, a place worth living in. Have experienced the northern light many times before, I honestly can say it never get old. Each and ever time it is a new experience for me. perceive the color and the way they move is amazing. I remember one time I was at my cabin and we saw them dancing outside. So my family went out to make love them my grand pa said watch as they move even more as I whistle. As he whistled they moved more when he stopped they slowed down.TO me it was amazing. TO me this seeing the northern lights was amazing. I have always wondered how it happen so I found out. As many people wonder how northern lights appear. Studies conclude that the northern lights happen when highly charged electron from solar wind interact with the earths atmosphere. The solar wind comes from th e sun at 1 million miles per hour. After 40 hours they finally reach earth. When in earths atmosphere they follow the line of magnetic force. The colors astound people. The colors are so bright and calming and different each time. You see the color blue is when an atom is struck anywhere from 20 to 60 miles in altitude. The color green is any where from 20 to150 miles in altitude. Purple is seen when is above 60 miles in altitude. Lastly red, and that only if it above 150 miles in altitude. Title Aurora Borealis. Financial Forecasting †Time Series Models Essay

The economic nook felt in the United States since the collapse of the ho victimisation merchandise in 2007 can be seen by various motilitys in the lodgement market. This collapse claimed some of the largest financial institutions in the U.S. such as Bear Sterns and Lehman Brothers, as they held over-leveraged positions in the mortgage backed securities market. Credit became widely available to unqualified borrowers during the nineties and the early part of the next decade which ca rehearsed bankers to act predatorily in their lending practices, as they could easily sell and package subprime mortgage loans on leverage. This act caused a bubble that would later burst when unqualified hearthbuyers began defaulting on their loans causing a direful downfall in the U.S housing market. Understanding which direction key market factors, such as the housing market, are going can help re-establish perceptual constancy in the market, which is at an all- judgment of conviction premium. Thi s paper is designed to help violate predict the direction of the housing market in the future via the use of meter serial publication models, in an effort to re-establish a sense of stability in the housing market. The following chart (Figure 1) represents the time series data for non-seasonally change home sales in the U.S. (NHS) from January 1975 to February 2012. The length of this geological period is significant because over a long period of time we can analyze trend, seasonality, cycles, and irregularity allowing us to better understand the future direction of the market. Trend is the long term change in the level of data. We can find trend in the data by simply looking at the chart and observing the general direction of the data over a long period of time. These trends can be deduced to a consistent change in the mean level of the data over a significant period of time, keeping in mind that seasonality allow for total year over year therefore annual recurring changes to the level of data should not account for an increase or decrease in the trend mean. Seasonality is the regular fluctuations in levels of data in a time series that occur every year at the equivalent time of the year. Seasonality is often seen in data that fluctuates regularly in accordance with calendar seasons. When analyzing this data we must also take into account cycles. Cyclical data can be accepted by it smooth elongated upward and downward movements on a long term scale. These reactions are to a greater extent irregular than seasonal patterns, but more regular than a change in the trend. Generally the cause of a cycle is less apparent right away and occurs because of the ups and downs in the economy do it harder to predict. In Figure 1 we can observe a distinct upward trend until late in 2005, with strong seasonality, and three distinct cycles. The last component that we must acknowledge is irregularity. Irregularities are the random fluctuations that are not affected by t he other three components making it the hardest to predict or rationalize. at that place is some irregularity in Figure 1, but it does not seem to be dominant as most of the fluctuations noticed in the time series could be rationalized by one of the previous three factors.Data source National Association of RealtorsOne way to verify a trend in a time series is to analyze a k-period plot of autocorrelations, also known as an autocorrelation function (ACF). If a trend is present we should notice a gradual decline, however if we see a steep decline we should note that there is no trend. In Figure 2, which represents time series data for non-seasonally adjusted home sales in the U.S. (NHS) from January 1975 to February 2012 we can observe a gradual decline meaning a positive trend is present. Additionally we can use the rule of thumb stating each value in the 12-period plot of ACF is greater than .0947 (2/446) and thus greater than the top(prenominal) limit, representing statistical s ignificance from zero and concluding that a trend is present. Now that we have verified the presense of a trend in the data we will look to verify the seasonality we saw earlier represented by regularly reoccurring fluctuations in the levels of data in accordance with the calendar seasons. To do this we will use an autocorrelation function for the beginning(a) differenced new home sales data. We will use a larger sample, in this case 24 months, so that we can see the regularly reoccurring fluctuations from one year to the next. When we look at the represent in Figure 3 we notice great increases with lag 12 and lag 24. The jumps seen in lags 12 and 24 confirms the presense of seasonality as they are above the upper limit representing statistical significance. FTime Series and Regression Models for New One-Family Houses Sold Since the NHS data has been shown to have trend and seasonality we will evaluate the data using four different time series models and compare the results of each to see which model is the most accurate. The models we are going to use are the Modified Nave model, Winters Exponential Smoothing model, Time Series Decomposition, and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA). We will also test a multiple retroflexion model to attempt to call future NHS, while taking into consideration fencesitter variables. Regression models determine the future direction of the dependent variable based on the forecasts of the independent variable(s). a lot times this can lead to a less accurate forecast as too much emphasis is macrocosm applied to the correlation of the independent variables to the dependent variable. In veryity large ranges of macroeconomic data such as NHS vary because of numerous variables that may not be taken into account. The threefold Regression model in Table 1 will have NHS as the dependent variable and use the 30-year conventional mortgage and the Seasonally familiarised Disposable Person Income as the independent variabl es. This data comes from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. We are going to use two separate periods in our analysis. The starting time period that we are going to use is our historical data from January 1975 through August 2011. The last six months of model from September 2011 through February 2012 is our hold break model in which we test the forecasted NHS results against the actual NHS during the same span of time to test the accuracy of the models forecasts. We will use ForecastX software to run the models in an attempt to determine which model is the most accurate and thus should be used to forecast NHS to obtain the clearest picture of the future direction of the market. The two wrongdoing measurements we will use to determine accuracy are mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) and root mean square error (RMSE). To obtain MAPE, we first divide the forecast error or error (actual value forecast value) by the actual value to yield the percentage error and then fancy the m ean of the absolute percentage errors. For RMSE, we first square the forecast error and then take the squared root of the mean of the squared errors.Multiple regression model 29.54% 19.07 32.07% 105.58% 43.12 176.00% *The mean for the historical period is 59.46 and the holdout period mean is 24.5 We can deduce the most accurate forecasting model from Table 1s forecasting error results. The model with the least amount of error is the most accurate, which in this case is the Time Series Decomposition model with exponential smoothing for the historical period. However the ARIMA model contains the least amount of error for the holdout period which would leads me to believe that it would be the most accurate indicator over the six month time period from March 2012 to August 2012, however when the model is run over the entire range of data to forecast the next six month period the upper and lower limits drastically trend away from each other each month resulting in a very vague forecast wi th low self-confidence. Therefore we will use the Time Series Decomposition to forecast the ex-ante forecast from March 2012 to August 2012.As I touched on earlier, the housing market is a key indicator as to the overall health of the market. Like other markets, the housing market is a victim to cyclical fluctuations. However, if investors and market participants can accurately forecast cyclical fluctuations in the housing market or in interest rates they will have more confidence in the market and be able to make more aggressive moves, spurring economic activity. The forecast summary in Figure 4 shows a continuation in the current NHS cycle through July 2012. This information could be used by a real estate investor to gain insight as to the right time to buy. If NHS continues to decline then we can assume that prices will continue to fall with it, and an investor can wait for the right time to buy real estate at the lowest price.ConclusionThe current outlook for NHS for one-famil y homes in the U.S. according to Figure 4, is seemingly positive. We have experienced a great recession since 2007, and in that recession we have reached depths unrealized since 1975 for NHS. This is shocking because of the population inflation in the country throughout that time, and is really telling of the severity of the recession we endured. Although, with that being said I think that the depleted NHS statistics will encourage investors to jump in and start buying up new property, as well as family that might have never been financially able to do it before. With these low levels in sales we have seen some tremendous deals becoming available, and at the same time banks are starting to lend again. Considering all of those factors I think that NHS will again start to trend positively.References1 Total New Houses Sold Thousands. Economagic sparing Time Series Page. N.p., n.d. Machiavelli and Odysseus

Power and Leadership The Connection of Power and Leadership between The Odyssey and The Prince Research As business firm handst Stories in several(a) Media LAPS/HUMA 1780 Prepared for Dr. Gillian Helfield Mr. Julian Manyoni Prepared by Samuel James Ysip 212-697-983 Power and Leadership Power and drawship play a big role in accomplishing the objectives of a squad. A person having these two attri entirelyes can direct a group of people towards achieving their common goal. These two comp integritynts of dictum are also essential to distributively other in order for the leader to be successful.Power is a persons ability to influence others and leadership is a persons talents to guide a group of people to achieve their common goal. A person that has condition but without the capacity to make the right decisions for the team entrusting definitely fail to lead a team to their goal and a person without the influence on others but with the talent to lead a team pull up stakes sure non be adequate to(p) to imple custodyt the qualities of a great leader to a group. Homers The Odyssey and Machiavellis The Prince are two al-Qurans that both contain themes about post and leadership.Homers The Odyssey contains information about Odysseus leadership capabilities during his journey home to Ithaca and how he reacted on different situations that involve precise leadership decisions. It also contains the status of his leadership in his homeland and what kind of monarchy he has. On the other hand, Machiavellis The Prince gives out information and guidelines on what a Machiavellian leader should be and how he should react in different kinds of situations. It also contains different theories on how the structure of a monarchy affects a ings favorable position in his own indexdom. Throughout Odysseus journey, he made questionable decisions that contradict the teachings of Machiavelli. By non following the guidelines of Machiavelli on leadership and power managework f orcet, as a result, Odysseus failed to lead his team unspoiledly back to Ithaca. Through Machiavellis theory, on could also argue that because of the structure of Odysseus poovedom in Ithaca, it resulted to the noble men in Achaea to take advantage of his absence, thus resulting to the exploitation of his land. The disobe be enumeratence of Odysseus crew members to his orders resulting to their demise, the act of contempt of Eurylochus once against Odysseus and the effects of political structure in Ithaca to Odysseus supremacy as king are the three factors that constitute the power and leadership growths in The Odyssey which are connectedly criticized and discussed through and through the guidelines and theories of Machiavelli in The Prince. The disobedience of Odysseus crew members to his order of not eating the oxen of Helios which resulted to their death is the out surveil of Odysseus failure to apply the teaching of Machiavelli about being pitying or cruel. In chapter seven teen of The Prince, Machiavelli stated that, A ruler mustnt pose about being labelled cruel when its a question of keeping his subjects loyal and united . . . he will prove more than compassionate than the leader whose excessive compassion leads to public disorder, muggings and murder. (65). Odysseus compassion towards Eurylochus a high ranking crew member that insults him and unendingly tries to lure Odysseus crew members to refuse his orders, resulted to the death of the crew members and further slow down his return to Ithaca.Eurylochus exploitations in the story began to develop when they arrived at the island of Aeaea. Eurylochus disagreed with Odysseus decision to go back to Circes palace to soaked person his men ride out after a prospicient travel. He then insulted Odysseus by saying, So in any quality it happened with the Cyclops, when our companions went into his yard, and the bold Odysseus was of their company for it was by this mans recklessness that these too p erished. (10. 435-438). These two incidents alone have enough grounds for Odysseus to take actions on Eurylochus obvious disregard of his authority.Odysseus considered killing him by taking his head off but he realized that he is related to Eurylochus by marriage and his men were also able to stop him by pleading to him. This confrontation is an evidence of Odysseus masking incorrect compassion towards Eurylochus. Although Odysseus showed a sign of disappointment, he never re in ally punished him which led to more disobedience by Eurylochus. It also showed that he considers his mens view of his actions. His actions confirmed that he would rather show compassion than cruelty by being stopped by his men from killing Eurylochus through their pleading.By not taking the necessary actions on Eurylochus behaviour, he was able to persuade Odysseus to land on the island of Thrinakia where Helios keeps his cattle despite Circes advice to stay away from Helios belongings. When they landed on the Island where the cattle are, Eurylochus again stirred up trouble by persuading the crew members that its fine to eat the cattle of Helios while Odysseus was asleep. Eurylochus said, . . . hunger is the sorriest way to die and encounter fate . . . let us cut out the best of Helios cattle and sacrifice them to the immortals who hold wide heaven . . . nd if we ever come back to Ithaca . . . we will build a rich temple to the Sun God Helios. (12. 342-346). This final incident that Eurylochus was able stir up became the main priming of the crew members death and also Eurylochus. Odysseus should have made the right decision of eliminating Eurylochus when he first started to disregard his superiority on the Island of Aeaea. Odysseus also showed a sign weakness in his leadership when Eurylochus was able to persuade him to land on an island where the temptations are apparent despite the group and Eurylochus constant disobedience and the crews inability to avoid temptation. In the book Machiavelli on Modern Leadership, Michael A. Leeden stated that Without fear of punishment, men will not obey laws that force them to act contrary to their passions. (115). Odysseus neediness of implementing punishment to his subjects made his crew men, particularly Eurylochus, more attracted to temptations and more convenient of violating not besides Odysseus orders but also the gods. Leeden also stated in his book that to be an effective leader, the intimately prudent method is to ensure that your people are afraid of you.To instill that fear, you must demonstrate that those who attack you will not survive. (126). This statement criticises Odysseus response to Eurylochus disobedience. Eurylochus challenged and ridiculed Odysseus leadership and authority during their stay on the island of Aeaea. He also questioned Odysseus decision of not wanting to land on the island of Thrinakia although he was able to persuade him anyway. Odysseus failed to respond with effective force on th ese incidents which resulted to more disobedience. The system of uthority that Odysseus implemented over his subjects during their journey resulted to his mens downfall and also his. By not applying the teachings of Machiavelli on how a leader should use power to appropriately perform cruelness or compassion to achieve a better and more disciplined kingdom, Odysseus showed unnecessary compassion to the wrong person a sign of a weak leadership, thus resulting to the death of his whole crew and further delayed his return to Ithaca. Odysseus leadership flaws do not stop on his lack of control over his subjects. He also made terrible judgements that led to the death of rough of his companions that consequently resulted to the lost of their trust to his leadership. Because of these bad decisions, Eurylochus Odysseus second in command, found the courage to challenge his leadership. In The Prince, Machiavelli stated that, . . . when there is no threat from outside, a ruler must take care t hat his subjects dont start conspiring against him. He can guard against this by make sure he isnt hated or despised and that people are happy with him (73).One reason of Eurylochus voice of displeasure with Odysseus leadership is because of Odysseus foolishness and stubbornness. On the Island of Cyclopes before Odysseus took his men to the cave, he stated that my proud heart had an idea that presently I would encounter a man who was endowed with great strength, and wild, with no true friendship of laws or any good customs. (9. 213-215). On their way to the Cyclops cave, Odysseus knew himself that danger is on their way yet he still made careless decisions when they occupy there.Instead of quickly taking all the affairs they needed inside the cave and despite his mens persuasions, he still decided to wait for Polyphemus to arrive because he in-personly treasured to try his luck if the Cyclops would actually welcome them inside. Odysseus stated that From the start my companions spoke to me and begged me to take some of the cheeses, come back again, and the undermentioned term to drive the lambs and kids from their pens, . . . but I would not listen to them . . . not until I could see him, see if he would give me presents. (9. 224-229).The fact that Odysseus is a cognize tactician, one could argue that his companions simple strategy is far much better than Odysseus naive idea of trying his luck with the Cyclops. Although Odysseus cunnings got him out of the cave after getting trapped, the consequences of his foolish curiosity in regard to the death of his comrades and the lost of trust of his comrades, outweigh the benefits of his cunnings. Odysseus stubbornness and foolishness led to the death of six of his men and this gave Eurylochus one of the reasons to go against his authority. The incident on their way out of Island of the Cyclopes also added fuel to the fire when Odysseus provoked Polyphemus by shouting to him. His crew members yet again pleade d to him, Hard one, why are you trying once more to stir up this savage man . . . (9. 494-495). They also mentioned that because of Odysseus provocative actions, the Cyclops threw big rocks at them and led the ship back to the shore and almost got them caught and get killed. This declaration by his crew members is a sign of their disappointment with Odysseus leadership. It shows that they are concerned with how Odysseus constantly putting them in harms way by being out of control. Another sign of their dissatisfaction is when the notion of unfairness came into their minds when they foolishly opened the base of operations of wind that sent them back to Aiolian Island. His companions stated that Odysseus is bringing home with him handsome treasures . . . while we, who have gone through everything he has on the same venture, come home with our hands empty. (10. 40-43).This action by the crew members shows a symptom of mutiny against a leader that is supposed be trusted and respected by his subjects. It also signifies that Odysseus has lost his connection with his crew men and they dont see him anymore as one of them. In an article by Elihu Rose, he claimed that Mutiny begins with grievances over some existing or threatened condition. The question then may be posed as to whether those grievances, legitimate or not, were in the end addressed and, if so, to what degree . . . (572).This statement supports the idea that mutiny is indeed the result of lack of acknowledgement by the people who are responsible to address the inseparable issues of an organization. It applies to Odysseus constant disregard of his crew members pleadings which resulted to him putting his crew members into situations that they didnt wish to go through. According to Machiavelli, . . . one of the most powerful preventive measures against conspiracies is simply not being hated by majority of people. People planning a conspiracy must believe that killing the ruler will be universal . . Eur ylochus knew the disappointment of the crew members on Odysseus leadership. This gave him the further courage to voice out his displeasure on Odysseus authority knowing that the crew members also have an issue with the way Odysseus handled situations. It also gave him the courage and the capability to persuade the crew members to disobey Odysseus orders of not eating the cattle of Helios. Machiavellis advice to a king of keeping his subjects agreeable or simply not despise him to avoid contempt or mutiny certainly didnt apply to Odysseus leadership. The stubbornness of Odysseus along with his inability to perform a cohesive relationship among his crew resulted into disappointment inside his circle which paved the way for Eurylochus to contempt against his authority. Lastly, the capability of the noble men to threaten his lavatory and exploit his belongings could be argued as the result of the political structure of Odysseus kingdom. Chapter four of The Prince discusses the advanta ges of appointing ministers and the disadvantages of a kingdom with nobles.Machiavelli stated that, These barons have their own lands and their own subjects who love the barons as their masters and are naturally loyal to them. Where a state is governed by a king and his ministers the king is more powerful since he is the only person in the state whom people recognize as superior. When they obey someone else it is only because he is minister or official and they have no special loyalty to him (16). In other words, Machiavelli suggests that because the nobles have their own power inside a kings monarchy, theyre more likely to disobey or be mutinous against a kings authority. On the other hand, a monarchy that has ministers instead of barons, gives the king the security of not having any defiance against his superiority. In The Odyssey, Achaea is a land filled nobles. It is known in the story that Odysseus did not appoint any ministers or any sort of authority to secure his bum in Ith aca from any threats while he is gone to war. This signifies that his power over the people of Ithaca is not absolute or in other words, the foundation of his power is fragile once a certain threat to his power comes in.In The Prince, Machiavelli claimed that the nobles are more likely to be corrupted by foreign forces because they are serious to please and are always eager for a change in leadership. This suggests that even if Odysseus came back to Ithaca on time, his authority is not secured from any innate or external forces (e. g. the nobles or other kings) that wanted to challenge it and much more worst if he actually have died in the war. In The Odyssey, Telemachus stated that, It is not bad to be a king . . . in fact there are many other Achaian princes, young and old, in sea girt Ithaca, any of who efficiency hold this position, now hat the great Odysseus has perished. (1. 393-396). This statement by Telemachus son of Odysseus, is a confirmation that Odysseus throne is in fact open for any internal or external forces (i. e. suitors Inside or outside of Ithaca) to occupy without any prohibition. According to Machiavelli, . . . there will always be barons ready to assume authority when circumstances swing their way . . . (18). Odysseus absence in Ithaca and the inexistence of authority gave the noblemen the outlook to do whatever they want in his land, consequently giving the noble men their chance to finally occupy his throne. An example of this is the persistence of the Achaean noble men to take his throne by marrying his wife Penelope, despite her obvious connotation of not wanting to marry. Another result of lack of authority in Ithaca is the constant abuse of his property in the hands of the noble men by uncontrollably devouring his livestock and wine. Although Telemachus tried to appeal to the suitors by holding an assembly with all the suitors and the Achean elders, it was not enough to get the suitors out of his land. Telemachus stated tha t We have no man here such as Odysseus was, to drive this curse from the household. We ourselves are not the men to do it . . . not men well flavor in battle. (2. 58-61). Although Telemachus has the right to be aggravated with the suitors spoilage of his belongings, there is no authority or power in his kingdom beyond his capability that could occupy the suitors out of his land. Without Odysseus, the noblemen hold the power on the land and are pretty much entitled to enforce their own rules. In the book Greek semipolitical Thought by Ryan Balot, he stated that, Odysseus was like a father to his people who protected them from foreign enemies, from less restrained aristocrats . . When Odysseus left Ithaca, everything went downhill, because of the greed and hubris of wealthy well-born men without a sense of decency . . . Meanwhile, the political community could exert some though not enough pressure on these aristocrats to amend their behaviour. . . as long as Odysseus was gone, th ose who would normally have been in charge were left with pious hopes that the gods would rescue them. Therefore . . . the well being of Ithaca depended on Odysseus return and his forcible reaffirmation of his power. (32).This statement by Balot supports the pipeline that the inexistence of ministers who play as the second in command of the king makes the monarchy endangered not only from the nobles but also from external threats. Without the authority of appointed ministers who play as the second in command of the king, it makes the noble suitors subsequent to Odysseus in the hierarchy of power in Ithaca. With the little quip between the powers of a king and noblemen, it makes it easier for the noblemen to enforce their authority in a kingdom when the power of a king is inexistent.Balots view of the situation in Ithaca also supports the idea that Odysseus authority in his kingdom is not supreme amongst all the people under his authority and it is just a matter of chance before the noblemen defy him. Machiavellis theory about the advantages of ministers and the disadvantages of having noblemen in a monarchy certainly applies to the structure of Odysseus monarchy. With the kind of monarchy that Ithaca has, Odysseus superiority in his land is undeniably vulnerable from the defiance of the ambitious and opportunistic noblemen. The inexistence of legitimate authorities like the ministers who play as the second in command of the king to provide governance all over the land and also as the kings safeguard from any mutiny makes the supremacy of Odysseus as a king of Ithaca questionable. A leaders utilization of both power and leadership is the sole reason for an organization to succeed or fail. A leader that lacks either one of these elements is most likely to fail on directing a group to achieve the groups common objective including the leaders own personal goal. The issues of power and leadership throughout Odysseus journey in The Odyssey are linked to the ideolo gies and guidelines of Machiavellis The Prince on how a king can businesslikely apply his power and leadership to maintain a well-organized and successful monarchy and what kinds of circumstances can affect a kings supremacy to his own kingdom. Throughout Odysseus journey, he showed address of leadership that contradicted the guidelines of Machiavelli of how a king should react in different situations that involve a critical leadership decisions.Odysseus too much compassion towards his crew members contradicts the advice of Machiavelli on why it is better for the leader to be feared than loved. His inappropriate compassion towards his crew members led to their rebellion against his authority which consequently led to their own destruction. Odysseus perhaps wanted to be viewed as a compassionate leader, therefore loved by his people, instead of being viewed as a cruel but effective dictator. just now according to Leeden Indeed, if you are feared, your followers will always find rea sons to love you. (128).Odysseus recklessness also resulted to the contempt of his second in command, Eurylochus. Machiavelli stated that a king should have the characteristics of both fox and lion to avoid traps and scare out enemies. Although there is no doubt that Odysseus is a courageous warrior and at the same time cunning, he showed at times that he only utilizes the qualities of a lion but lacks or disregards the qualities of a fox, thus resulting to his crew members frustration of his actions. An example is when he courageously waited for Polyphemus despite knowing the fact that hes an unlawful monster.Machiavelli stated that those kings that only rely on qualities of a lion have no idea what theyre doing. The structure of Odysseus monarchy is also discussed in Machiavellis The Prince. Machiavellis view on why a king is better off with a monarchy with appointed ministers than a monarchy with ruling noblemen can certainly be applied to the struggle of power in his land, Ithac a. The situation in Ithaca proves that Machiavellis view on the importance of ministers and the disadvantages of having noble family in a monarchy is accurate. These issues of power and leadership in The Odyssey created the consequences that plagued Odysseus, his crewmen and his wife and son throughout the story. The rebellion of his crewmembers is the result of Odysseus failure to apply an efficient leadership along with his power, consequently resulting to his authority over his men to diminish as well. The effect of the political structure to Odysseus supremacy in Ithaca is unchangeable, thus making him an inevitable victim of an unavoidable circumstance. However, If Odysseus followed the guidelines of Machiavelli on how an ideal king should lead, Odysseus could have saved some of his crew members and achieved their ultimate common goal and that is returning to Ithaca safe and sound. Bibliography Balot, Ryan. Greek Political Thought. Blackwell Publishing, 2006. 32. Print. This tex tual matter contains a thorough history of ancient Greek political thought. It examines different kinds of ancient text (e. g. The Odyssey) in order to distinctly demonstrate the political thought and structure of ancient Greece during its time. It also studies the connection between politics and ethics in ancient Greece.Part of this text studies the tendencies of the noblemen to revolt against a ruler. Balot stated that the aristocrats often sought for political connection outside a kings monarchy to gain additional political connection that could possibly suffice them attack their own government. It also contains Balots view of the situation in Ithaca when Odysseus power is inexistent. Balot stated that Odysseus existence as a king is the only thing that hinders the less-restrained aristocrats from doing what they wish to do in his land. Homer. The Odyssey of Homer. Trans. It describes the trials and the consequences that Odysseus had to go through till out his journey. This text relates to my essay about Power and Leadership because it exhibits Odysseus leadership capabilities on different kinds of situations (e. g. Odysseus leadership in the island of the Cyclops) throughout his travel. This text is relevant to my argument because it contains incidents that required Odysseus to make leadership decisions. An example of these incidents is when he decided to wait for the Cyclops despite his crew members request of leaving the cave. By using these incidents in The Odyssey, it will help me apply the guidelines of Machiavelli on how a king should respond in different kinds of situations that required critical leadership decisions. Ledeen, Michael. Machiavelli on Modern Leadership. New York Truman Talley Books and St. Martins Griffin, 1999. 112-149. Print. This book studies the lesso ns of Machiavelli on leadership and how they can be applied to modern politics. Michael A.Ledeens personal view on the importance of Machiavellian leadership will be used as a tool to back up my claims on why the consequences that Odysseus suffered throughout his journey were the results of his leadership decisions that contradicted the guidelines of Machiavelli. In one case in the book that indicates the importance of inserting fear in the people under ones leadership, Leeden uses George Washington as an example by illustrating how the former U. S. chairperson used his army to control the citizens who were against the idea of paying excise tax on their liquor.Machiavelli, Niccolo. The Prince. Trans. Tim Parks. Great Britain Penguin Books Ltd, 2009. Print. This book by Machiavelli instructs the readers of the guidelines of how a Prince should lead and overcome adversaries or conflicts the Machiavellian way. It relates to my topic of Power and Leadership because it contains ideologi es of how leaders should react or demonstrate power when threatened by internal or foreign forces. This text also discusses different circumstances that could affect a kings superiority in his kingdom. The effect of the political structure of a kings kingdom is an example of the topics that are discussed in this text that could be applied to the circumstance of Odysseus kingdom, Ithaca. This text will be the basis of my judgement on the rights and wrongs of Odysseus leadership. It will also be the basis of my evaluation on what Odysseus should have and should have not done on different situations throughout his travel. Rose, Elihu. The Anatomy of Mutiny. Sage. (1982) 572. Web. 25 Mar. 2013. http//afs. sagepub. com/ essence/8/4/561. full. pdf. This article by Rose studies the reasons of mutiny in the military. It also explains the different kinds of mutinies, how the process of mutiny starts and how to end it. It also contains examples of passed mutinies from sixteenth light speed Fr ench monarchy. This article is essential to the argument of why Odysseus inappropriate actions in the land of the Cyclopes have made his crewmen disappointed which led to the act of contempt of Eurylochus against him. Its explanation of how mutiny starts supports the argument that Odysseus action against the will of his crewmen is the primary reason why his subordinates rebel against his authority in their journey.

Article Critique: the Tyranny of Choic Essay

I will be writing a Article Critique on the article The Tyranny of Choice by Barry Schwartz. In this Critique I will addressing m either psychological concepts, including what is a maximizer and satisficers. Also I will test myself to see which one fits me the most with the purpose I made in my life and the ones I will make in the future.A maximizer is aboutone who tries to get the best out of ever side or tries every options until they found the best one. (Schwartz,2004) A satisficers is someone who would settle for OK even if the best is out their for them. Maximizers spend the most time on everything because they spend most of the time comparing any and everything they find. Satisficers may browse and look around unless when they find something that is right for them thusly they eliminate any further browsing. A scale was develop to distinguish the two and it is c solelyed The Maximization Scale. When you use the scale and and you be higher than 4 then you be considered a maximizer. If you score lower than 4 then you are considered a satisficers. Many say that a maximizer hightail its to become more depress than a satisficers mainly because they tend to think about the many choices they turned down to get the best choice. Sometimes the choice they chose isnt that much better then the other choices they turn down. So they would dwell on the thought and it would get them upset and start to become depress. Whereas with satisficers they get depress but not as much, because they are upset about their other choices but since they lowered their standards they are pretty acceptable with their decision. (Schwartz, 2004)My score is 4.3 which means that I am more of a maximizer. When I make a decision I do all of my research before I try or do anything new. I weight out my pros and cons before I attempt to do anything, mainly because I do not want to make a mistake in the bulky run. At the end of the mean solar day though I am happy with the decision but so me how I see better choices that I either overlooked or didnt pay attention to. When I figure out those choices I tend to get upset or mad with my self, because some time I think the magic what ifSome try to delegate their all in their getting what they assume is the best choice. The more we invest in a decision the more satisfaction we expect to realize from our investment.(Schwartz,2004,pg 74) What ever they invest in, they expect to be able to use it or learn from it for a long period of time not a short one. The reason I say that is because they wouldnt want to spend all their hard work on and time on something that will not last that long. If that do happen then the person will be upset and soon become down in the mouth about their wrongful decision. In my opinion I thought this Article was very interesting to read. I saw myself reading and thinking that I do the exact same thing I am reading about. I am a online shopper never go to the store and shop, but I tend to start sit e hopping. Which is simply me going from site to site trying to find the best choice or the best value. At first I didnt know they gave people who find the better item and people who settle a name. I also tend to try to put my all in something I expect to last quite a while Example, I wanted the new Ipod touch, but it cause 300 with everything, now I sacrificed going out, getting fast food, and limiting my spending. Now the only reason I did that is because I expect the iPod to last for a long time now, but if it was to last for a couple of weeks or months then I would not have done all of that. Overall this article was a well put together article in which I learned a lot of information from that I can use later in life, it also explained a lot of things in my life at this time.In conclusion, As the number of choices we face increase, the psychological benefits we derive start to level of(Schwartz,2004 ,pg75) It seems like the more choices you are faced day by day the more it will s tart to bother your emotions and feelings. You are faced with so many choices on a day to day basis, and you try our to make the ideal choice. At the same time your mind may drift off and say What if I chose this or that then the pressure increase. This article was to help you realize somethings about yourself. Also it was something that would help you better yourself in the years to come.ReferencesSchwartz, B. (2004, April). The tyranny of choice. Scientific American, 290(4), 70-75.

Disaster framework

This paper discusses the importance of national simulation for disaster management to the managers involved. It withal describes how the national example is based and implemented at all levels of government. The model is an meaty document to managers because it gives them the guidelines, structures and procedures by which they bum adopt at given level and situation.IMPORTANCE OF NATIONAL DISASTE FRAMEWORKThe bailiwick answer Framework (NRF) is a guide in which the nation uses to conduct reply to hazards within a defined structure and which aligns the roles and responsibilities of government management levels, nonpublic field organizations and Non Governmental organizations. The NRF has an objective of managing hazards and incidents that may impact individuals and businesses (Homeland, 2008). The response initiated will be to quickly deal with saving of lives, protect property, and protect environment and grooming of basic humanitarian needs (Homeland, 2008)The modeling i s a work document for leaders in all levels of government together with executives and leaders of private sector and NGOs. This is based on sh atomic number 18d responsibilities that require commitment from federal government and lower level governmental heads to be able to plan for response case of unavoidableness needs. The NRF is composed of main document, emergency complement function (ESF), support annexes, incident annexes and partner guides. The ESF involves resources and capabilities needed in order for the operations to succeed such as transport, firefighting services, and medical services (Homeland, 2008).Support annexes include needed resources on day to day operations such as finances, manpower, donations and coordination with private sector. Partner guides ar essential in defining the role and actions of leaders engaged in the emergency operations. For powerful response of an emergency need, the framework gives detailed account of the specificity of dealing with th e emergency guided by the National Incident Management System (NIMS) which has standard look out overs and management structures essential in application during response operations. The NIMS calls for effective response victimisation leaders capabilities, individuals and households. It teaches basic understanding of ones roles and responsibilities. The NIMS guides leaders in designing plans, assessments and exercise at particular level, it also provides the needed resources and knowledge collection. apiece organization is able to define its roles and function within its area of operation and ensure efficiency (Homeland, 2008).The main levels in which the framework implements its response activities include local anaesthetic government, private sector/NGOs, states or territories and federal government. At lower level the local governments leaders mobilize communities, NGOs and private sector to be engaged in arresting an incident within their area of operation. Leaders have a man date to give leadership roles, protect and take direction of the welfare of its people. The private sector on the other hand has a duty to protect and provide for its employees. While NGOs provide in depth knowledge, outreach services and support services (Homeland, 2008). The states have similar responsibilities but on Brobdingnagianr scale than local governments. They have to coordinate private sector, NGOs and other assistance from other states, territories and tribal governments. The federal government is responsible for coordinating for resources under request of states governor. It has mandate to mobilize federal resources and federal capabilities under the leadership of secretary for homeland aegis (Homeland, 2008).The NIMS framework is designed in such way that it can be adapted at any level of government operations dealing with disaster. The framework also explains in detail the actions to be taken during the response activity. The framework has an enormous task of provid ing structures at national level where policies and operational procedures are coordinated. These procedures can be implemented during operation because there is room for initiativeness and innovation. The aim is to accelerate the mechanisms for assessing the situation and reporting the incidents. The framework does erase the national coordination of response on large scale through with(predicate) presidential declaration. However, its activities remain in principle hence a more manageable and effective emergency response. (National Academies, 2007) The disaster response framework outlines the essential core part of its operation which defines the operational concepts duties and functions with an objective of protecting lives and property. This is based on five main principles for an effective response. These include ) Partnership involution where leaders communicate to partners and vigorously support each other by setting up goals and capabilities together. The process thus emphas izes on need for progressive and free burning flow of information that will build on sustainable and improved service operation. Partnership will help the response unit to identify personnel, van them and acquire equipments for emergency operations in advance before the incident occurs. These will also help in effective coordination ((Homeland, 2008 Tierney, Lindell, & Perry, 2001) ) Response can also be based on particular tier. This is when management of emergency is specifically handled within the jurisdiction it arises i. e. by local leaders and communities depending on its magnitude (Homeland, 2008). c) The response must also adapt to change in its size of incident, scope of the incident and complexity of the incident hence the need for discipline and effective coordination of resources. d) The framework utilizes the understanding of unity and unified command in the process of on scene operations. These entail common application of effort and respect for the chain of command he nce the use of Incident Command System and NIMS structural format. e) The act of readiness is emphasized in the framework which recommends that in order to have effective and successful operations, all individuals involved must be ready to participate and understand risks associated with the operation. This will therefore mean the leaders must establish proper working relationships, train the communities on risk and safety measures and ensure effective application of the safety guidelines. The framework describes the roles and responsibilities of different level of government management large-minded the broad spectrum of understanding them as basis of separation of duties to eliminate cases of overlapping and duplication of roles. Understanding these roles help managers to be prepared for disaster response actions. These are Local government is responsible for mobilizing communities for a course of action led by its leaders that are supposed to offer guidance, resources, emergency management and policy, laws and cipher adjustment needful for disaster response operation. Palen, Hiltz, & Liu, 2007 Homeland, 2008). Private sector and Non Governmental organization are called upon to provide and protect the welfare of its employees.Participate in planning, developing, collaborating and responding to emergency operations. The NGOs are resourceful in provision of services like identification of shelter and supplies location, provide food, shelter and clothing as well as provide information of victims who need help and coordinate assistance (Homeland, 2008). States, territories and other governments have a responsibility of supplementing and supporting the course of action taken by local governments through coordinating state resources, pass information to stakeholders and coordinate efforts from other neighboring states (Homeland, 2008). The federal government is responsible for coordinating emergency response from the national level. It is unremarkably led by the president coordinated from the office of Homeland domestic security. The office coordinates activities of other departmental organization affiliated to the emergency such as Incident management, FEMA, Law enforcement, National defence and support of civil authorities, international coordination, intelligence and federal department agencies (Homeland, 2008). The frame work thus gives details necessary for disaster managers to act when responding to disasters. These response actions include preparedness, response and recovery after the incident. In this case, preparedness involves issues like planning, organizing, training, equipping, exercising, evaluating and improving on the response initiatives based on the experiences learnt. Response deals with structural awareness, activation and availing of resources coordination and demobilization. Lastly the recovery plan will be put in place to meet the short bourne and long term needs for victims (Homeland, 2008). A disaster framework is helpful to managers because they give them the structures by which they will implement national policies and operations at all levels. This is coordinated and integrated by the NIMS.The system emphasizes the need for managers to be conversant with planning which is essential in effective disaster response.CONCLUSIONTo sum up the national framework is distinguished to disaster managers because it is designed in such way that they can be implemented at any level. The understanding of roles by leaders in a particular sector if significant in effective management of emergency . The national framework works through legal mechanisms that are coordinated at federal level and adopted at all levels of government management. Hence the need for cooperation and support between the public, government, private sector and NGOs

He started to complain that there was nothing to eat (there was plenty to eat, just nothing he wanted to make). all this time he did not come out to ask me if I wanted or needed anything so I threw a full winded tantrum.I started screaming at him, Are you stupid, do you not see the heating pad and ice pack? Do you not realize was in a car accident and could have been killed? Cant you do something for me for once? My voice rose to the level that I believe the people down the block could have perceive me. I got myself Off the couch and actually got in his face (l would like to believe it was the pain killers I was on but I have reacted like this in the past when I was over tired or not feeling good) and continued to scream how useless he was and that he needed to feel another place to live.He just looks at me and goes blah, blah, blah, Im not going anywhere, and then I accelerate into psycho mode telling him that cant take the fact that when I am sick he will do nothing for me but the rest of the time do everything for him. I am not rational at this moment because if I was, I would realize that am wasting my breath. The more he acts like he doesnt care that look like a lunatic, waving my arms and distorting my face into something scary, the more I realize it is hopeless and start to cry.He went back to his room to brood and I go feeling more wear upon and with a pounding headache go back to my heating pad and ice pack and fume. Second time was five minutes with an intensity of 2 Sunday 11/16 wage out for breakfast at Waffle House before going to church. There are no expectations on Sunday, except for him to accompany me to breakfast and church, which he does willingly without incident. He is always good on Sundays, which makes me believe he knows what he is doing. We come home, read the paper, and have a nice meal around 300, he goes in his room and I either go visiting or have visitors and the day is quiet. Its amazing.Monday.. 11/17 730-752 a. M. Starting my week off, come downstairs only to find all the lunch meat out on t he counter, the mayonnaise left open and out on the counter with several dishes, crumbs everywhere and the coffee machine was left on all night. From the kitchen I yell, Michael, get in here now No response from him. I yell again, Michael get up and get in here right now He yells back, What did I do now? Cant you just leave me the alone? To which really start screaming, Cant I just have one day, just one (forgetting that I had yesterday), what the heck is wrong with you, are you trying to drive me crazy? I start putting stuff away and throwing stuff away, deliberately making as a great deal noise as possible because am now waist deep in a tantrum. Am throwing my hands up scream at how stupid he is and that he doesnt care about money or how hard I work, that he just is passive aggressive because he is sick and has no one else to take it out on. I could actually record these tantrums and just hit play because the words are always the same when am at a level (intensity) 3. He star ts telling me to go myself and in turn become louder and more insulting myself. The only reason this tantrum ends is because I have to get ready for work and want to get out of the house and away from him as quick as possible. Still, I managed to rant for twenty-two minutes before finally crying and breaking down. Intensity-3, Minutes 22 Tuesday 11/18 Everything was quiet today. Michael got up and we both apologized to each other about last night. After a really bad tantrum both of us realize that things have gotten out of intro and both of us try harder to get along. Zero tantrums today.

Nature’s Impact Essay

The outdoors contains numerous wonders that a child explores throughout the early years of life story therefore, a persons childishness tends to position his path for the future. As a result, occurrences seen on an average day sitting at school, exploring in the woods, or examining the stars ease up the potential to be life changing. An Ameri give the gate Childhood (Dillard), Two Views of a River (Twain), and listen (Welty) all allocate this thought, yet the works juxtapose each other with different moral philosophy.Annie Dillard writes of the expectations of her to return by and by completing college and settling in the same town in which she resides her entire life before attention college It crawled down the driveway toward Shadyside, one of the several sections of town where people deal me were expected to settle later on college, renting an apartment until they married one of the boys and bought a house (2). Dillard feels essentially unpermitted to broaden her horizon of a future. She believes she had been restricted too early and therefore Dillard feels she is not allowed to live up to her possible potential. Mark Twain, on the other hand, writes of the river and its influence upon him This sun means that we are going to have wind tomorrow that rudderless log means that the river is rising, small thanks to it that slanting mark on the water refers to a go reef which is going to kill somebodys steamboat one of these nights if it keeps on stretching out like that .(1) Within his typography, Twain wonders if he were to have noticed all the diminutive and revealing things of the river as a child, whether it would have foreshadowed the future from the perspective from which he sees the past now. Twain wishes he had respected the river further as a child rather than simply viewing it as an effortless beauty. Eudora Welty also writes of her childhood, explaining her love for the cant over and all that dwells within it.She states, I could see the fu ll constellations in it and call their names when I could read, I knew their myths (Welty 1). Even with all the knowledge she had of the ominous unknown that seems endless and vague to the common child, it still takes Welty until she is already a published writer before she realizes the moon does not rise in the west. Learning of this alters her perspective. However, without accept that the moon rises in the west, less delight and excitement would have occurred within her childhood. Dillard, Twain, andWelty write of their upbringings and how certain changes, if varied, could have fashioned a different future. They outwardly realize the options they had, and the elements they would have distorted in the past to helper themselves in the future. Where Dillard, Twain, and Weltys works mutually contain the reference to their childhoods, they contrast each other with the morality of their writings. Dillards extended metaphor places her in an equivalent situation as the Polyphemus moth whose overgrown wings scotch wider than the Mason jar that withholds it.The region uses the bit about the moth to foreshadow her telling of her confinement to Shadyside. The moral of her piece is that ones parents, friends, or even societys restraints should not oppress ones aspirations to what is simply considered to be correct Conversely, Twains piece concludes one should not take life for granted because it can exceed so hastily, that a large quantity of imperative information and experiences can be neglected and missed The world was new to me, and I had never seen anything like this at home. alone as I have said, a day came when I began to cease from noting the glories and the charms which the moon and the sun and the declination wrought upon the rivers face another day came when I ceased altogether to note them. (1) Welty teaches in her piece that a childs learning is made of specific moments in time and she shares her involvements with this learning there comes the moment, and I saw it then, when the moon goes from flat to round. For the first time it met my eyes as a globe. The forge moon came into my blab as though fed to me out of a silver spoon. Held in my mouth the mood became a word (Welty 1). Eudora reveals that moments like this which seem miniscule can alter ones personality and interests. Each instant of learning creates a change in ones kind makeup. Dillard, Twain, and Welty are each eloquent and sophisticated writers.Their works are relatively alike in the concomitant that they each converse of their childhoods and what they would have altered within them however, they juxtapose each other with diverse morals veiled within the pieces. Causes of the English Civil War

Causes of The English Civil War In this opinion I get out be analysing the many causes and roots of the English Civil war which broke come forward in 1642. The English civil war was a long chain of conflict and rivalry, which was set between two rattling powerful forces, who consisted of The Royalists (King Charles I, and his supporters), and the Roundheads (Parliament, and their supporters). The feud erupted on the 22nd of August 1642, and lasted for 7 years, when its final effect took place in 1649. There were many reasons for this intellectual battle, including political arguments, economical arguments and also religious arguments, which will be categorised and stated in this essay. To begin with, one of the fundamental causes of The Civil War includes a religious argument, about James Is and Charles Is dedication to the shaper Rights of Kings. The Divine Rights of Kings was a religious doctrine, which states that a monarch is to have no authority to the will of his/her people , deriving the ripe to rule directly from the will of only God. James and Charles were both very firm, believers of The Divine Rights of Kings especially that, as to begin with James expected a great amount of attention from Parliament, by letting him set about his own decisions, and did non expect any of his decisions to be argued with. However at this time, Parliament consumed a major emolument over James, as parliament contained a great amount of bills, whereas James was constantly short of it. It was from his come that Charles acquired to also be a very strong devotee to the Divine Rights of Kings, as he complete the damaged relationship which was left between his father and Parliament, and blamed this action entirely on Parliament. This take to a complete ignorance with the Parliament, from Charles, and set his Godly rights to do as he pleased. But this action was considered a enormous shock to Parliament, during this time, as parliament had experienced to be much powerf ul under the period of the Tudors, and pass judgment current Kings and Queens to listen and abide by their commands, just like Elizabeth I had done, by be a succeeding sovereign, listening wisely to the Parliament, and standing by their rules. But the actions of Charles meant that the power of Parliament had been undertaken by the monarch, and their reputation continued to weaken. Because of this parliament now despised Charles very much. All these actions shows that TheDivine Rights of Kings is implied as a very significant reason to foundation of the civil war, as it is considered as the main reason for the start of the unanimous dispute and disagreement between the Royalists and Roundheads. This whole feud continued to develop, as parliament were increasingly getting more frustrated, with the fact that James I and Charles I, were acting even more unwisely upon idiotic decisions they do. An grand political reason for this is that both Charles I and James I, thoughtlessly and carelessly, choses the most unhelpful advisors for themselves.James I spot the Duke of Buckingham, for the most idiotic reason because he was good looking. James thought that the Public would be attracted to this reason, scarcely unfortunately were not, as Buckingham came out to be very stupid and a waste of choice. Charles also foolishly chose his advisor, by selecting his best friend the Earl of Strafford, which was a he mistake as he public scorned him, which led to a bad burden on the king. Another action that Gave Charles a bad impression was the amount of money that was wasted by him, by spending a hefty amount on insignificant things, such as cloths, parties and palaces. But this meant that Charles was continuously losing his money, and therefore, always ended up petition Parliament for more money. Charles found other ways to get more money, as he also need money for a war taking place against Spain at the time. One way Charless used was asking Parliament to increase taxe s, so that he could gain the money he needed, but unfortunately this didnt happen as Parliament refused to give the money to Charles, as Parliament had a list of take away to get more power off the King. But Charles did not take any of this, as he would not allow his power to be destroyed and taken away by Parliament, and in a shocking rage of anger he made the simple decision to shut down Parliament in 1629 for 11 years, which changed England politically, as it meant that there was now less control over England, to guide its path make this decisions also lead to consequences, as now that Parliament was gone, he needed to depend another fixing to get more money. In 1635, Charles decided made a very important economic decision to remedy to the ancient custom of demanding ship money. Ship money was an ancient tax, when kings were able to order coastal towns and villages to cook up for the expenses of the navy and ships. However, Charles demanded more ship tax the following year, a nd intended to ask for it every year. But this gained Charles a vast amount of complaints. Especially when in 1637, a man named John Hampden was prosecuted for refusing to pay ship tax. This made people very angry. And eventually in July 1641 ship tax was abolished.

America & Globalization Essay

AbstractThe purpose of this radical is to explore the idea that American corporations ar working with inter field of study companies to help get along the economy. The paper focuses on the use of globalization as a primary tool towards accomplishing that goal. The paper overly provides the reader with views from twain supporters of globalization and opponents as well. The articles used for this paper give very interesting events as well as views on both sides of the socio-stinting table. In U.S Liberal Politics author Deborah unobjectionables article Pros and Cons of plain Trade she discuses globalization in relation to innocent(p) trade agreements and provides both pros and cons as well as a generalized definition of alleviate trade.Meanwhile, Gary Hufbauer provides a more supporting article on globalization supplied with studies and debates. As for Chris Isidores article, it focuses generally on the recessions from past to present and what trends are different and remai n the similar when it deals with the progression of the economy. Lastly, Wikipedias definition of Globalization lays out in detail the history, timeline, business applications, and etc. nearly the economic reference. In alike(p) manner, this paper examines the overall analysis of globalization and how it relates to boosting the economy.America & Globalizationvirtuoso of the boastfullygest topics today in Americas current events is the U.S. economy and the need for an economical boost. The U.S. declared the in vogue(p) recession the biggest since the Great Depression. According to Chris Isidore (2010, p.1), The Great niche started in December 2007 and ended June 2009. However, this information does nobody for the many Americans out of work, over-debt in their mortgage, and uncertain about their financial future. Nevertheless, seemingly, the American corporations have worked hard to assay to find ways to help fellow Americans and boost the economy choke to its median. One of t he ways big corporations think will help is the use of Globalization.According to Wikipedia (2012, p.1) by definition, Globalization refers to the increasingly global relationships of culture, people, and economic activity. It is generally used to refer to economic globalization the global distribution of the production of goods and services, through decrement of barriers to external trade such as tariffs, export fees, and import quotas. Comparatively, the United Nations Economic and Social guidance have also written that globalization is a widely-used term that can be defined in a number of different ways. When used in an economic context, it refers to the reduction and removal of barriers between national borders in order to facilitate the flow of goods, capital, and services and labor In contrast, at that place are however as many people opposed to this idea as those whom support it.Deborah White writes (p.1), One hot under the collar(predicate) complaint is that more than t hree million U.S. jobs with middle- descriptor wages have been outsourced to foreign countries since 1994. It seems that the biggest obstacle is convince the middle class that globalization is in fact, a good idea for the economy. Those same opponents believe that free trade has caused more U.S. jobs harmes than gains, especially for higher-wage jobs. They also feel that many free trade agreements are bad deals for the U.S. Nevertheless, American corporations in conjunction with government officials are both working with other international companies to help boost our economy. To begin with, American corporations like the idea of boosting the economy through the use of globalization. Henceforth, with treaties like NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) and organizations like NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) America has been at the forefront of the promote for the removal of barriers between national borders in order to facilitate the flow of goods, capital, services and labor. Moreover, as White writes (2012, p.2), The purpose of free trade agreements is to allow faster and more business between the two countries/areas, which should gain ground both. Statistics show that globalization does help boost the economy. Gary Clyde Hufbauer writes in his article, The Peterson Institute calculates that the US economy is approximately $1 trillion richer each year owing to past globalizationthe payoff both from technological instauration and from policy liberalizationand could gain another $500 billion annually from future liberalization. These are the numbers that motivate American Corporations. In addition, globalization helps increase sales and profits for U.S. businesses, which ultimately boost the economy. What the middle class does not understand is that globalizations tactics such free trade help perform more jobs within the middle class sector for the long term. White also adds (2012, p.2), Removal of high-priced and delaying trade barriers, su ch as tariffs, quotas and conditions, inherently leads to easier and swifter trade of consumer goods. The result is an increased volume of U.S. sales. Globalization also helps to develop and strengthen the economy of the poorest countries as well. Some of the biggest benefits of poor countries through tactics like free trade are creating more industrialized nations and increasing the purchase of their natural resources and/or labor services.Condescendingly, there are just as many opponents to globalization and free trade as there are supporters. Many of those that oppose consists of middle class Americans and the congressman they elect. The biggest problem is a fear of the unknown. center(a) class Americans dont want to wait for the long-term. They want to continue to have the same earnest of employment as theyve always had, which is understandable.Nevertheless, they also feel free trade agreements cause a loss in higher paying jobs. This is the basis or platform for the argument of the War on the Middle Class. The argument of free trade and globalization, although provides a soaring boost in corporate profits, psyche wages stagnate. This leaves no room for the middle-class to advance. As White explains (2012, p.2), While corporate profits soar, somebody wages stagnate, held at least partly in check by the brave new fact of offshoring that millions of Americans jobs can be performed at a fraction of the cost in developing nations near and far. every things considered, the determination of whether globalization is good for the economy will continue to be a debatable come out amongst those of different socio-economic groups. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that globalization has its pros and cons. The ultimate goal and mindset of American Corporations target implementing globalization is to work with international companies in an effort to boost the economy. Famous investor Warren Buffet one time said, Someones sitting in the shade today because someone p lanted a channelise a long time ago. Whether that shade tree is globalization, who knows? The ultimate goal is creating jobs and getting the economy back on course.ReferencesDeborah White. (2012) US Liberal PoliticsPros and Cons of Free Trade Agreement. Anderlini and Clover Essay

In their article, Anderlini and Clover (2009) speak about chinawares and Russias desire to purchase IMF bonds. While China considers buying about $50bn of IMF bonds, Russia seeks to spend no to a greater extent than $10bn for these purposes. Both countries will use these investments according to essential criteria of reasonable returns and safety, which are in no behavior associated with the countries search for additional political power in outside(a) contexts. It appears that for Russia and China to purchase IMF bonds means to draw out their desire to trace and monitor the distribution of international monetary commitments. The money Russia and China are lively to pay for IMF bonds is expected to assistance evolution countries tackle with the major economical challenges. For example, Russia proposes that IMF uses additional funds to help Ukraine resolve its gas issues with Russia (Aderlini & Clover, 2009). Although the IMF is not very optimistic with regard to sponsoring Uk raine in its balance payment issues, purchase bonds may shape a good ground for remedy stability in broader financial trades. retortThe fact of Russia and China seeking to purchase IMF bonds signifies the increase international commitment to reducing trade barriers. With the growing realization of the benefits which the reduction of trade barriers can bring internationally, the IMF bonds and additional funds can be promptly used to support developing countries in their striving to better trade liberalization and rail line openness. On the one hand, the developed countries desire to stimulate international trade signifies their preparedness to better dialogue with developing countries in terms of business and trade. On the other hand, such openness also provides developing countries with better chances to become a part of the developed business community. As a result, whether the changes in the structure of international financial assets help reduce trade barriers also depends on how well countries and organizations manage them. Response 1 In his article, Bogoslaw (2009) suggests that the time has come when India, Brazil, and China should become the major investment targets.Given that the state of parsimony is not limited to economic foodstuffs in the U.S. , it is more than important to look beyond the boundaries of the American economic attractiveness and to provide other countries with a better chance for economic growth. It should be noted, that the concept of market economic system is integrally linked to the concept of economic freedom, and where countries seek to implement the principles of market preservation these imply the absence or minimization of governmental involvement. In case of China, India, and Brazil, governments still remain the tidy elements of economic growth.Simultaneously, dozens of smaller developing countries need additional investments for their gradual transition to free market relationships. Thus, not Brazil or India with their well-established economic images, but other developing countries with sound legal systems and investment opportunities should attract additional funds. In any case, stocks and investments always involve risk, and if investors believe that by cooperating with India or China they secure themselves from the major losses, they are deeply mistaken.Response 2For many years, embargos have been an effective beat of economic and diplomatic discipline. The leading world powers frequently apply to embargo as the appraise of farthest resort, and whenever countries are unwilling to follow the basic principles of international legal or economic conduct, embargos appears the most accepted method of imposing balanced legal and economic requirements on them. It appears that to stop supplying countries with the critical resources is more important that trying to persuade such countries to change their convictions and political beliefs. It should be noted, that embargo implies putting a lega l ban on commerce, and individuals are those who suffer these limitations the most. As a result, whether embargo is an effective measure depends on what perspective one chooses to review its benefits and drawbacks, but that embargos significantly reduce the scope of the major business operations and prevent individuals from achieving their individual purposes is clear.
